Additional soundtrack info
Before the expanded edition of this score was released in 2004, there was a 24k gold "Master Sound" collectors edition of the soundtrack. It contained 3 bonus tracks including "Fire Dance." There are also two bonus tracks not included on the expanded edition: they are "pop" versions of "The John Dunbar Theme" and a track called "Dances with Wolves" which contains cues from several sources of the score, all under an electronic beat and score. This gold CD is the only source for these two pop tracks; they were not included on the expanded edition. The "John Dunbar Theme" bonus track can be heard in the music video included on the Three Disc Expanded Directors Cut DVD of the film. This video was also shown on VH1 during the release of the film in theaters.

Soundtrack Q & A
Q: What orchestra was used to perform this original score? (from mom in chicago)
A: According to the liner notes for the expanded score, John Barry did not use a specific orchestra. Instead he had a 95 piece orchestra with a 12 voice choir for the recording. The score was recorded in Los Angeles from July 19 to the 25 of 1990. A couple of "pop" versions of the score were remixed in 1991. (thanks to MartinH65, Marietta, GAadd more info

Q: Is the pop version available on any CD in stores or on the internet, or does it have to be the gold version CD? (from jim schrader in minnesota)
A: It's only on the gold CD, which can be found with more probability on the internet than in any stores. (thanks to OST.NUTadd more info

Q: How many gold CDs were made? And how much can one expect to pay? (from jim schrader in savage, mn)
