Soundtrack Q & A
Q: Would like to find out the name of one of the songs in this movie. Parts of the lyrics are "...just wanna play on my drums all day..." Who sings this and what is the name of this song? (from Jackie in San Antonio,TX)
A: Todd Rundgren wrote and performs "Bang The Drum All Day." The song is also listed with an alternate title at BMI as "Bang On The Drum." The song was released in 1982 on Rundgren's "Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect" CD. Todd sold the rights to Disney some years back, they use it for their park's street parades and even some of their sound/motion toys. Bang has also been used in many movie trailers over the years, one of them that comes to mind is ANTS. The song was also featured on Ringo's All Star Band CDs and DVDs when Todd toured twice, as a member of Ringo's band. Todd Rundgren still does perform a variation of the tune "Bang On The Ukele Daily" at some of his concert performances. The Greenbay Packers play the song when they make a touchdown. "Bang" is a very popular song at sporting events and ball games including those featuring Todd's eldest son Rex Rundgren who plays shortstop for the Florida Marlin's minor league teams The Jupiter Hammerheads and The Carolina Mudcats.
