Trivia
Performed solely by an orchestral string section.

Herrmann's scoring choice prevailed over Hitchcock's instinct about the film's music. Hitchcock originally wanted a jazz score (probably inspired by Touch of Evil).

Originally Alfred Hitchcock didn't want any music composed for the infamous shower scene but Bernard Herrmann wisely convinced him otherwise.

Soundtrack Q & A
Q: What are the notes or note being played during "The Murder" in the famous shower scene (the violin shreiks)? (from Mr. Bunderfull in Chicago Ill. U.S.A.)
A: The highest note in the violins is an E flat, but the second violins are playing an E natural, and lower voices are playing F and G flat. So basically, the highest note is E flat, but everything from E flat to G flat is being heard. (thanks to Gizm, Texasadd more info
A: I have to disagree with the other post. For one thing: Eb is lower then E natural.... It starts with just Eb7 and E7 on the first 3 "musical stabs", then lower notes get added into the mix with each set of 3 "stabs": first E6, then F6, then E5, then F5, then Gb4, then F4, then Gb3. Not all of those notes are kept but its hard to hear when they stop. (thanks to IanF, Englandadd more info

Q: Which is the track playing on the player in Norman's bedroom?
...from Litros in Mexico (answer Litros's question)
