Herrmann's scoring choice prevailed over Hitchcock's instinct about the film's music. Hitchcock originally wanted a jazz score (probably inspired by Touch of Evil).

| A: | The highest note in the violins is an E flat, but the second violins are playing an E natural, and lower voices are playing F and G flat. So basically, the highest note is E flat, but everything from E flat to G flat is being heard. (thanks to Gizm, Texas) add more info |
| A: | I have to disagree with the other post. For one thing: Eb is lower then E natural.... It starts with just Eb7 and E7 on the first 3 "musical stabs", then lower notes get added into the mix with each set of 3 "stabs": first E6, then F6, then E5, then F5, then Gb4, then F4, then Gb3.
