A: | Track No. 1 "Outside Looking In" is the piece you are looking for. Michael Nyman, composer, described it as a variation on his "String Quartet No.3" (see his official website). It is a strikingly evocative piece, possibly one of the most movingly sad pieces of music ever composed. John Williams' theme for "Schindler's List" could compare, but not quite win, as saddest.
