Q: | Who sang "Soweto And Vocal Reprise"? (knew and loved Steve Biko, whom the movie doesn't describe quite enough. Love this music. Only have an old tape of it. Must buy the CD one day.) (from toni in Revelstoke BC Canada) |
A: | The Children from Bulawayo, Lobengula and Thuli Dumakude. (thanks to OST.NUT) add more info |
|
Q: | Who's the vocalist in the last song, "Cry Freedom"? (from paul Wheeler in devon UK) |
A: | Jonas Gwangwa (thanks to OST.NUT) add more info |
A: | I believe the vocal is shared with composer George Fenton himself. His soft voice and Gwangwa's are easily distinguished. (thanks to grambax, Glasgow, Scotland) add more info |

Q: | What is the name of the song the people were singing at Steve Biko's funeral in the movie? (from lipe in Australia) |
A: | It is the hymn "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" ("God Bless Africa") in the isiXhosa language - which is now part of the national anthem of South Africa (since 1994). The hymn was originally composed in 1897 and was always sung as an act of defiance against the apartheid regime.
Just before the hymn starts, at the beginning of the song, they sing "Kuthe kube kunaphakade, kuthe kube kunaphakade" - which is once again in the isiXhosa language, and translates to: "Until everlasting life, until everlasting life". Q: | Who is the woman singing the short song during the scenes at the end of the movie where the people are protesting with the Afrikan police and is also a prelude to the National Anthem "Nkosi sikeleli Africa"? Is it on the album because she sings it soo pretty, beautiful vocals. (from Danielle in Reston, VA) |
A: | The same basic vocal is on the short "Soweto And Vocal Reprise" track and at the start of the "The Funeral" track, and is by Thuli Dumakude. (thanks to grambax, Glasgow, Scotland) add more info |
