Q: | Hi, does anyone know if the song during the *end titles* is on the soundtrack CD? Coz I can't find the melody, which actually was in the film when the Rider and The Caretaker traveled to San Venganza. (from Rogue in Russia) |
A: | The original song is "(Ghost) Rider in the Sky" by Stan Jones. The song in the film is done by Spiderbait. (thanks to nealchris, orange county ca) add more info |
A: | "Ghost Riders in the Sky" is done by Spiderbait. Unfortunately, it's not on the soundtrack. (thanks to Tisthammerw, Minnesota) add more info |
A: | "Ghost Riders In The Sky" is originally done by Johnny Cash, not Stan Jones. The version in the film is a remake by Spiderbait, and it's not on the OST. (thanks to 666sAngel, HICKTOWN, USA) add more info |
A: | The song is originally by Stan Jones. Johnny Cash's version is just one of the most popular of the several dozen covers. (thanks to Kutulu, Baltimore) add more info |
A: | There are over 200 versions of Ghost Riders in the Sky from artists as diverse as Gene Autry, Deborah Harry, Dean Martin, Peggy Lee and Children of Bodum. It was written in 1948 by Stan Jones, and in 1949, there were several versions on the top songs charts at the same time, the most popular one being by Vaughn Monroe. The Johnny Cash version was not recorded until the 1970s, by which time there were dozens of other versions available. (thanks to JohnMD1022, Maryland) add more info |
A: | I think the best version of "Ghost Riders in The Sky" was recorded by The Outlaws - it's the title track for one of their albums, released around 1982 featuring the blazing guitars of Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones. RIP Hughie and Billy. (thanks to Hitman, New Jersey) add more info |
A: | Stan Jones was just a boy when he and an old cowboy friend of his rode out to check a windmill. A storm was brewing & the old man told him to look closely at the clouds and he would catch a glimpse of the "Devil's Herd" being chased by phantom horsemen. He also told the boy to watch himself or he too would be chasing steers for eternity. Years later on his 34th birthday (1948) Stan Jones recalled the scary, dark afternoon and sat outside his Death Valley home and wrote "Ghost Riders in the Sky". There has been over 50 artists to perform this song. (thanks to She's a Johnny Cash Fan, New Mexico) add more info |
A: | Marty Robbins did a good version in 1969 that still holds up today... (thanks to Blaster, Orange County, CA) add more info |
A: | There are over 1,000 versions of Ghost Riders in the Sky. I have collected in excess of 500 versions, to date. It was written on June 5, 1948 by Stan Jones. The original version, by Burl Ives, was recorded on February 17, 1949 and released by Columbia Records as catalog number 38445. The recording first appeared on the Billboard charts on April 22, 1949, lasting 6 weeks and peaking at position #21. The Vaughn Monroe version, the best-selling one, was recorded on March 14, 1949 and released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 20-3411. The recording first appeared on the Billboard charts on April 15, 1949, lasting 22 weeks and peaking at position #1. At one point in the spring of 1949, there were 5 different versions in the top 20. Johnny Cash made a recording in 1979 which was faithful to the original.
So, as can be seen, the Cash version did not come until more than 30 years after the first recordings. It is not even a particularly memorable version, IMHO, just a familiar one to most people.
A great site is here (thanks to JohnMD1022, Maryland) add more info |
