Q: | Hello, I have always wondered what track #5 meant by "Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini" (Rachmaninoff). Any info on this would be appreciated? Thanks. (from Rich in Greeley, CO, USA) |
A: | The piece of music is the 18th variation from Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini, Op. 43 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The work is based on a recognizable theme by Niccolo Paganini, and tells of the legend of Paganini's dealings with the devil, his love of a woman, his troubles with the church, and his final defeat.
