Soundtrack Q & A
Q: During the police chase in the beginning, what's the song Kirk plays on the car's radio after rejecting a call? (from brn. in Portugal)
A: The song is Beastie Boys' "Sabotage", not present on the OST album. (thanks to SkyWalker, Portugaladd more info

Q: After Spock rejects staying in Vulcan to join starfleet, what's the funk-based song playing after he says "Live long and prosper" to the council? (from brn. in Portugal)
A: "Josh Greenstein" by Cyrano Jones (thanks to dreita, Caliadd more info
A: The movie credits this piece as "Awasoruk Jam" by Cyrano Jones. It was actually created by JJ Abrams for the movie, and "Awasoruk" is Kurosawa backwards. (thanks to OneBuckFilms, Ca, USAadd more info

Q: What's the song playing in the bar in the beginning? (from Josh in Vulcan)
A: The song that plays in the beginning is track 1 of the soundtrack album, music by Michael Giacchino. (thanks to brn., Portugaladd more info
A: This isn't the right answer, they are asking about the bar song, not the beginning of the movie. (thanks to Alisa B., salt lake city, ut, usaadd more info
A: So very right. The song is "Awadoruk Jam" by Cyrano Jones, a reference to a character in the Star Trek TV series. (thanks to brn., Portugaladd more info
A: Not Awadoruk, but Awasoruk Jam by Cyrano Jones. which is Kurosawa backwards. (thanks to Em, Minnesotaadd more info
A: This is an inside joke by J.J. Abrams. He also has a band, they cut it specifically for this album, and you can't find the download anywhere because it was never released. That's why it's "performed by" Cyrano Jones (character's name in "The Trouble with Tribbles", original Star Trek episode). Another J.J. Abrams inside joke. (thanks to Lear, Country Music City, USA (Nashville)add more info

Q: Ok... so I've looked every where... What's the funk song playing in the bar at the beginning of the movie? I've looked it up and it said Josh Greenstein/Awadoruk Jam/Awasoruk Jam by Cyrano Jones. Cyrano Jones isn't a band but a character from Star Trek. I'm assuming that even if I find the song, I wont be able to download it because I've looked on Itunes and Limewire and cant find ANYTHING! Please help. (from ... in Florida)
A: I'm thinking these songs were created for the movie and therefore you can't find them out yet... (thanks to Mariah, ctadd more info

Q: During the end of the movie when Nero's ship is sucked into the black hole, there is a gorgeous choir piece playing. I haven't been able to find it on the soundtrack. What's the name of this song? (from em  in phoenix)
A: It's in the track titled "Nero Fiddles, Narada Burns" around 1:42. (thanks to Alisa B, salt lake city, ut, usaadd more info
A: Are you certain? I got the song but that part isn't in it. It's a cappella, right at the part when the ship is sucked into the black hole. (thanks to Tristan, Ohioadd more info
A: I think the one you're looking for is "Nero Death Experience." I'm pretty sure. (thanks to Eversworn, USAadd more info

Q: What is the song that plays for the Vulcans? It's soft and it kinda sounds like a sitar. (from sharo in georgia)
A: The song titles I could not find, but the pieces themselves are by Karen Han, a famous Chinese erhu player. The string instrument you are hearing is the erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument. She does all the music for the Vulcans in the soundtrack, however I can't find the names of the pieces exactly. hope that helps. (thanks to Kitty, Pennsylvaniaadd more info
A: There are no published names for the pieces, since they are part of Michael Giacchino's score for the movie. (thanks to OneBuckFilms, Ca, USadd more info

Q: What is the song playing during the first scene with adult Spock and his mother? It's a beautiful string piece. (from Niel in MN)
A: It is a part of the score, and is the first instance of Spock's theme, played on the Erhu. (thanks to OneBuckFilms, Ca, USAadd more info

Q: Why isn't the song "Two Steps from Hell" performed by the Freedom Fighters from Star Trek not available on iTunes? Is it under a different name or simply not there? (from Mrs. Joker in Bellevue, TN, USA)
A: Well, it's been reworked and revamped. Look under "Down with the Enterprise". (thanks to fdx, Portugaladd more info
A: Because the song is called "Freedom Fighters" and it's performed by Two Steps in Hell. (thanks to emzo, njadd more info

Q: What song is playing when Kirk, Sulu and Olsen are boarding the shuttle before the space jump?
...from Sleepless on Vulcan in Salt Lake City, UT, USA (answer Sleepless on Vulcan's question)

Q: Will there be a complete soundtrack release as was done with Star Trek II? (from GHC in Atlanta, ga)
A: Yes, it was just announced! A limited edition 5,000 copies deluxe edition. Star Trek The Deluxe Edition score on 2CDs. (thanks to MGST, Pluronadd more info

Q: In this soundtrack, which track is playing when the logo is revealed? You know, when the words "STAR TREK" appear? (from Molly B in UK)
A: "Star Trek" is the name of the theme. (thanks to Owen H., Hollandadd more info
