Q: | There was some slow Irish song in this movie that appeared a few times. Can anyone help me.... I am trying to finish up a project for a college class. Thanks (from MC in St Louis MO ) |
A: | It's called "Lay Me Down":
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
When they come I will stand my ground
Stand my ground I'll not be afraid
Thoughts of home take away my fear
Sweat and blood hide my veil of tears
Once a year say a prayer for me
Close your eyes and remember me
Never more shall I see the sun
For I fell to a Germans gun
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Where before many more have gone
In memory of Sgt. Charles Stuart MacKenzie
Seaforth Highlanders
Who along with many others gave up his life
So that we can live free
We will remember them
(thanks to Allen, Fairbanks, Alaska) add more info |
A: | Joseph MacKenzie wrote the song in memory of his great-grandfather, Charles Stuart MacKenzie, a sergeant in the Seaforth Highlanders of the British Army, who along with hundreds of his brothers-in-arms from the Elgin-Rothes area in Moray, Scotland went to fight in the Great War 1914-18. Sergeant MacKenzie was bayoneted to death at the age of 35, while defending one of his badly injured fellow soldiers in the hand-to-hand fighting of the trenches. Q: | What is the music playing in the opening credits of the movie? It sounds like a drum cadence and something... rifle butts being slammed on the ground, or something. It is awesome, but I can't find it anywhere, except the movie. (from doug in medford, oregon, usa) |
A: | It's an excerpt of "What is War" by the score's composer, Nick Glennie-Smith, but somewhat modified - the drumline sounds a little more compressed, metallic. Interesting effect. I'm curious as to how they produced it. (thanks to ben, Chicago, IL) add more info |
